Philip Schauer tapped to lead new Pennington Biomedical program aimed at fighting obesity

BATON ROUGE, La. (LOCAL 33) (FOX 44)- The state dropped $5.9 million dollars to fund a new treatment center aimed at fighting growing numbers of obesity and diabetes.

The new facility will be located near Our Lady of the Lake Hospital and the Pennington Biomedical campus on Perkins Road. Dr. Philip Schauer, a renowned surgeon, will be the director of this new program.

“This project at Pennington Biomedical and Our Lady of the Lake will deliver great value to Louisiana by combining clinical research, advanced surgery and economic development to produce better health for our people,” Governor John Bel Edwards said.

Schauer will move from Cleveland to Louisiana in 2020 to begin working on the program.
