PLAQUEMINE, La. (BRPROUD) – Motorists who typically use the Plaquemine ferry should make different plans on Tuesday.

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development is giving everyone a heads up about the closure of the vessel.

The closure is set to begin at 4:30 a.m. on Tuesday and it “is necessary to allow the Coast Guard to conduct their annual inspection on this vessel,” according to the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development.

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development is providing guidance below:

Travelers are encouraged to monitor 511la.org for the status of the ferry prior to traveling.

As a reminder, the ferry’s weekday hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 4:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.

DOTD appreciates your patience. Motorists are encouraged to check the status of road conditions statewide prior to beginning commutes by visiting the 511 Traveler Information website at www.511la.org or by dialing 511 from their telephone and saying the route or region about which they are seeking information. Out-of-state travelers can access the system by calling 1-888-ROAD-511 (1-888-762-3511).
