SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – Shreveport police say a five-year-old girl was shot in the left hand Monday afternoon in Cedar Grove.
It happened in the 400 block of 76th Street just after 2 p.m. Police say they had a report of two vehicles driving down 76th St. shooting back and forth at each other when one of the bullets struck the child while she was playing in her front yard.
Police say the mother attempted to drive the little girl to the hospital but lost control of the car at Midway and Linwood and crashed into Forest Park Cemetery. She was able to flag down a passing driver, who took the child the rest of the way to Oschner LSU Health Shreveport.
The child is expected to survive.
KTAL/KMSS spoke to the child’s grandmother at the scene.
She says this is not the first time this week her family members have been caught in the crossfire.
She says just two-days ago, someone shot at her grandson in her yard.
He fell and scraped his hand, which she believes saved his life.
“This is the last time they shoot at my family if they don’t do anything, I will. If you don’t believe in God, this is proof there is a God. God is the only reason my grandson and grandaughter are alive right now, they’re shooting at me too and I haven’t done anything. The police told me to leave my house so I don’t get hurt” said Sadie Johnson.
