BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – Capital area authorities say the 26-year-old father of a toddler was arrested on multiple charges after he was caught speeding on an ATV (or four-wheeler) with his young son in the front seat at the start of the Labor Day weekend.

According to the Baton Rouge Police Department, Jorey Bryant was identified as the driver of the ATV when he and his one-year-old son were pulled over near Florida Boulevard Friday (September 2) evening.

Police said not only had Bryant failed to ensure the little boy’s safety by having him wear protective gear, but the 26-year-old was also found carrying a firearm illegally.

In addition to the above allegations, police say Bryant was promoting an illegal event scheduled to be held Saturday, September 10.

The event, ‘Midcity Madness,’ would have encouraged multiple ATVs to illegally take to capital area roadways in an effort to block the Mississippi River Bridge and prevent any other traffic from accessing the bridge, authorities say.

According to police, Bryant’s young son was delivered safely to a relative and Bryant was arrested on charges that included drag racing on a public road, criminal negligence, child desertion, illegal carrying of a weapon, and reckless operation of an off-road vehicle.
