GONZALES, La. (BRPROUD) — The Gonzales Police Department released more information after a reported shooting at a park on the evening of Sunday, Oct. 8.
Police say officers responded to a shooting at Carver Park on North Tobey Avenue around 9 p.m. Four people were shot, two were injured in a car crash and one was killed during the crash.
As of Wednesday morning, the Gonzales Police Department said they have performed 14 interviews with both sides of the argument, carried out 13 search warrants and recovered four guns.
According to police, no video surveillance is available, and detectives say at least 70 rounds were fired during the altercation with three separate vehicles.
Of the seven subjects hospitalized, four were released and the remaining three are still being treated for significant injuries.
Police say plenty of physical evidence was recovered from the scene and is being taken through forensics to be examined.
The police department reports having persons of interest and anticipates making numerous arrests in this altercation.
“Gonzales Investigators will not rush to make arrests until we have provided the District Attorney with the best prosecutable case, ensuring the responsible parties for this event can and will be prosecuted to the fullest extent,” said Gonzales Police Chief Sherman Jackson.
