BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – An officer with the Baton Rouge Police Department was on patrol early Thursday morning in the vicinity of I-10 and Perkins Rd. when a vehicle was seen speeding towards the squad car.

The affidavit states that a silver 2022 Dodge Ram 1500 was clocked going 14 miles per hour over the speed limit.

The Dodge Ram passed the BRPD squad car at a high rate of speed and made its ways towards the I-10/I-12 split.

At some point, the officer initiated a traffic stop.

The driver was identified as Paul Brandon Ortego, 46, of Prairieville.

Ortego admitted to drinking prior to getting into the vehicle and a subsequent Field Sobriety Test did not go well for the 46-year-old man.

While securing the scene, the officer found a bag in the door pocket panel.

The officer believed the bag contained cocaine and Ortego confirmed it contained “blow.”

Ortego confessed to buying the cocaine outside of the same local night club where he had been drinking earlier in the night.

The Prairieville man believed that there was around 3 grams of cocaine in the bag.

Ortego did pass a breath alcohol test.

The 46-year-old was booked into and released from the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on Thursday, May 19.

Ortego is charged with Speeding and Possession of Schedule 2 Drugs.
