(WVLA-WGMB)-Ascension Parish is one of several parishes set to get public assistance to help communities recover from storm damage. This comes after President Donald Trump approves major
disaster declaration for parishes impacted by Hurricane Barry.
During Hurricane Barry, emergency workers in Ascension Parish say they handed out over 100,00 sandbags within a short period of time.
Ascension Parish Martin McConnel says that the parish will apply for FEMA reimbursement for the manpower that was used for preparations.
“I cannot talk enough about the emergency operation center here in Ascension Parish. They were staffed 100% of the time.
They remained in contact with everybody. They also put out a ton of information they gave out so that people were fully informed,” says McConnel.
