The Promise of Justice Initiative

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – On Wednesday, local groups including The Promise of Justice Initiative and East Baton Rouge Parish Prison Reform Coalition are holding a virtual news conference at 10 a.m.

The news conference is going to cover a recent request made to the Department of Justice.

These local groups are asking “the United States Department of Justice to institute an investigation into illegal practices in local law enforcement.”

The news conference is scheduled to start at 10 a.m.

“The people of Baton Rouge hold not only the scars of decades of illegal acts at the hands of local law enforcement agencies, but the fresh wounds of these continuing injuries,” said Rev. Alexis Anderson, Executive Director of PREACH and a member of the East Baton Rouge Parish
Prison Reform Coalition Steering Committee. “We have tried so many avenues to protect our
people, and now we will invest in another—the Federal government.”
