Authorities in Louisiana say one person in a car reported stolen was killed and two others were injured when the driver crashed into a tree while fleeing officers.
Jefferson Parish Sheriff Joe Lopinto told news outlets that license plate readers captured the plate of a stolen vehicle early Monday morning. Lopinto said that when deputies tried to stop the driver on a New Orleans road, the motorist sped off.
New Orleans police responded to the crash.
The department’s traffic fatality unit will lead the investigation into the crash, and the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office will lead the investigation into reports the car was stolen.
