RATS! Watch Great Blue Heron help curb vermin problem in New York

Manhattan Bird Alert

NEW YORK, N.Y. (BRPROUD) – So this story will not bring back fond memories of the movie, Ratatouille.

David Barrett has a Twitter account devoted to “nature photos and video for Central Park and all Manhattan.”

The Twitter account is Manhattan Bird Alert and over the weekend, the bird aficionado captured a once in a lifetime video.

While walking around Central Park on Sunday, Barrett captured a video of a Great Blue Heron scarfing down a rat.

This message accompanies a photo of the heron eating the rat on Barrett’s Manhattan Bird Alert Twitter page:

Great Blue Herons eat plenty of fish, but they won’t pass up a meaty and filling New York City rat—this morning at the Central Park Pond.

The video was taken a little before 10 a.m. and it has not stop spreading across Twitter.

Like a lot of large cities, New York has a rat problem and maybe unleashing Great Blue Herons upon the city would help lower the number of vermin.
