Runnels Preschool to hold annual “Storybook Character Parade” Friday

News

Dressed up as ‘Pete the Cat’ from his favorite book, ‘Firefighter Cat,’ at last year’s “Storybook Character Parade” at the Runnels Preschool is Easton McCants with preschool teacher Debbie Schacht.

Runnels Preschool students will dress as their favorite children’s book characters and showcase their costumes on an imitation red carpet during the school’s “Storybook Character Parade” Friday at 10:30 a.m.

Preschool teacher Danielle Banquer will interview the students and ask them what their favorite book is and what character they are dressed as.

“The purpose of the parade,” Preschool Co-Director Karen Runnels said, “is to emphasize the importance of reading with young children. Early reading creates a love for reading in our young students and sets them up for success in school.”

The parade celebrates reading and is held in conjunction with the school’s fall Scholastic Book Fair.

Scholastic’s theme this year is Arctic Adventure, so students painted polar bear footprints along a concrete walkway directing visitors to the book fair.

Runnels Preschool is located at 6455 Jefferson Hwy. in Baton Rouge.
