Close to 8,000 people from up to 10 countries and 48 states are expected to participate in the 9th Annual Louisiana Marathon, which begins Jan. 17 at the Raising Canes River Center and lasts for two days.

The marathon includes distances for all ages and ability levels. A quarter marathon and a kid’s marathon will take place Jan. 18. The half and full marathons will take place on Jan. 19, according to Louisiana Marathon Communications Director Michael Wattigny.

The marathon generates an estimated $2 million and $4 million yearly, Wattigny wrote.
