Assumption Parish Sheriff Leland Falcon is cautioning people in the parish concerning an apparent scam involving the use of your social security number.

Falcon said during the past couple of days, scammers are calling and advising persons that their social security number has been cancelled. The caller then requests information from potential victims. In some cases, the violator request that you send some form of payment to re-instate your social security number.

The social security administration does not conduct business in this manner or by phone.

This scam is not limited to the elderly and in fact persons of any ages are vulnerable.

Sheriff Falcon urges all residents to refrain from sending any money or providing information to anyone soliciting by phone.

If you have any questions, please contact the Sheriff’s Office at (985) 369-7281.
