BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – Earlier this week, a special event took place involving former LSU Men’s Basketball Coach Dale Brown.

Coach Brown participated in the Chancellor’s Champions for Change Banquet at the Renaissance Baton Rouge Hotel on Wednesday, August 24.

During the event, details about the Dale Brown Scholarship were unveiled and the former coach spoke to the crowd in attendance.

Five scholars will be chosen for the Dale Brown Scholarship which was created this year.

“The scholarship recipients will commit to the requisite DEI training and workshop requirements to become an official Champion for Change,” according to the Baton Rouge Community College.

Details about requirements and goals for the Dale Brown Scholarship can be found below:

Scholarship Requirements:

  • Be an Incoming Freshman or Current Student with a Minimum 2.5 GPA
  • Be a member of an underrepresented group or marginalized group (including but not limited to underrepresented racial populations, low income , individuals with disabilities etc.)
  • Have overcome personal, social and/or physical obstacles pursuing an education and /or be from a living environment or academic setting that may have hindered educational pursuits.
  • Have demonstrated a commitment to diversity and inclusion, and/or leadership in working with underrepresented groups, through employment, community service or other involvement.

The goals of the Dale Brown Scholarship for BRCC’s Students are:

  • To foster an environment that appreciates and values an increasingly diverse student body.
  • To increase the recruitment, retention, and graduation of a diverse student body.
  • To develop student interest ,involvement, and leadership in diversity, inclusion and/or social justice initiatives.

BRCC said, “The mission of this scholarship is to create pathways to better lives through learning, coaching, and motivating our students.”

Along with the Dale Brown Scholarship, the event also allowed for the introduction of the Chancellor’s Champions for Change Scholar Program.
