School supplies giveaways in, near Baton Rouge: Get help, free backpacks, clothes, food and more

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Although it feels like school just ended for the summer, some places are preparing early for back to school.

Teachers and parents are counting down the days for students to return to school. But the students need school supplies to return. To make it easier for the parents and students, we’ve compiled a list of back-to-school giveaway events in and near Baton Rouge.

Students that attend schools in the East Baton Rouge School System and Iberville Parish School District are expected to resume classes on Wednesday, Aug. 9.

Ascension Parish students return to classes on Thursday, Aug 10.

Students part of the Livingston Parish Public School System and the Assumption Parish School District are expected to return on Friday, Aug. 11.

East Baton Rouge Parish

Martin Luther King Jr. Back to School Giveaway

What: The Zachary committee is hosting a back-to-school supply giveaway. Parents are asked to be present with their child/children and to provide one canned good.

When: 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 5

Where: Zachary High School Gym, 4100 Bronco Lane

Baker Chamber of Commerce Back to School Bash

What: The Baker Chamber of Commerce is hosting a free back-to-school giveaway. The giveaway includes school supplies and book bags. Food, games, and vendors will also be available. Students must be present to receive supplies.

When: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 5

Where: Baker Municipal Center, 3325 Groom Road

Councilman Darryl Hurst’s Back to School Bash

What: Councilman Darryl Hurst, Senator Regina Barrow and rapper Kevin Gates are hosting a back-to-school giveaway. The giveaway includes school supplies, uniforms, backpacks and haircuts. Food, snowballs and more will also be available.

When: 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 5

Dudley DeBosier Injury Lawyers Unveils Back-to-School Gift Card Giveaway

What: Dudley DeBosier Injury Lawyers is hosting a giveaway for back-to-school shopping. Teachers and families can enter to win one of 12 $250 Amazon gift cards for back-to-school supplies.

CareSouth Back to School Giveaway

What: The health center is hosting a back-to-school giveaway for the local community. The event is a drive-thru only. One backpack full of supplies per child, and the child must be present. A produce box will be given to each family as well.

When: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, July 28

Where: CareSouth Donaldsonville Clinic, 904 Catalpa St.

Ascension 4 Youth Fest

What: Back to school supplies and resources will be available at two upcoming Ascension 4 YOUth Fest events in Ascension Parish.

When: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, July 29 and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 5

Where: The July 29 event will be in Gonzales at Jambalaya Park, 1015 E. Cornerview St. and the Aug. 5 event will be in Donaldsonville at WAG Center, 1201 McGinnis St.
