Sheriff: 2 charged in death of 82-year-old bar worker

TERRYTOWN, La. (AP) — A father and son have been arrested in the death of a Louisiana bar employee, who suffered a fatal head injury when the pair pushed him to the ground on New Year’s Eve, authorities said.

Rickey Lincoln Sr., 40, and Rickey Lincoln Jr., 21, were charged Monday with obstruction of justice and manslaughter in the death of 82-year-old Robert James, The Times-Picayune/ New Orleans Advocate reported. The elder Lincoln was also charged with simple robbery.

The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office said James was a well-known regular and part-time employee of the Roaring 20s bar.

On December 31, James was taking out the trash behind the bar when two men accosted him, grabbed his phone and pushed him to the ground, authorities said.

Because of his age, James couldn’t get up and laid there for sometime until a passerby helped him up, authorities said.

James refused treatment but later suffered a subdural hematoma, bleeding of the brain, authorities said. He was found dead in his home the following day.

The Lincoln’s were identified through a Crimestoppers tip.

It’s unclear whether they have attorneys who would comment on their behalf.
