THIBODAUX, La. (BRPROUD) – Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre is recovering after a health scare over the weekend.
On Tuesday, the sheriff provided an update on his condition from the Thibodaux Hospital and Health Center.
Sheriff Webre said that on “Sunday evening I unexpectedly developed chest pains and was brought to the emergency room.”
Webre suffered what is known as a “Widow Maker” heart attack.
According to WebMD, “a widow maker is when you get a big blockage at the beginning of the left main artery or the left anterior descending artery.”
The sheriff believes that he is alive today because of the work done by those at the hospital.
Webre said, “But for the hand of God guiding the lifesaving measures of the doctors and medical staff, I would have perished that night.”
Sheriff Webre thanks everyone who has reached out over the last few days.
In you wish to send flowers, the sheriff asks that you instead give money to the American Heart Association.
