BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – On Sunday, October 9, a deputy with the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office was at a local storage facility.

Otter Self Storage had seen “several recent overnight burglaries,” according to the affidavit.

While there, the deputy saw a man walking around who was later identified as Axel Frutos, 20, of Baton Rouge.

The deputy decided to question Frutos who was wearing a backpack at the time.

Frutos claimed he was just walking around the storage facility.

The deputy continued to investigate and determined that Frutos did not have a unit at the storage facility.

The Baton Rouge man did not identify himself and was put in handcuffs by the deputy.

A subsequent search of Frutos and the backpack uncovered the items listed below:

  • Around 10 grams of marijuana in a pill bottle
  • Concealed Black Beretta PX4 Storm
  • Three vacuumed sealed bags of marijuana
  • Black Glock 34 9 MM handgun with an extended magazine
  • Metal grinder
  • Digital scale

The affidavit states that the 20-year-old “did not have a concealed carry permit.”

Frutos told the deputy “that he was recently shot and was found to have three gunshot wounds,” according to the affidavit.

After going to the hospital for treatment, Frutos was arrested and taken to the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.

The 20-year-old was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on Monday, October 10.

Frutos was charged with the crimes listed below:

  • Resisting an Officer – Refusal To Give Name Or Make Identity Known
  • Illegal Carrying Of Weapon
  • Illegal Carrying of Weapons (with CDS)
  • Prohibited Acts
  • Possession\Distribution Manufacturing Schedule I

The Baton Rouge man was “found to be a suspect in a shooting and crime scene deputies collected all evidence from the scene,” according to the afidavit.

Bond has not been set for Axel Frutos.
