There’s a new piece of artwork displaying the iconic pieces of the Capital City.
Visit Baton Rouge unveiled a new mural inside the Raising Cane’s River Center Tuesday, October 8. The mural is located near the box office at the arena’s entrance.
The idea for it stemmed from June of this year as a collaborative effort with Visit Baton Rouge and the Raising Cane’s River Center. The two organizations came up with the concept of creating a piece of art that would feature different places within East Baton Rouge Parish.
“The culture of art and creativity in Baton Rouge is growing now more than ever. We wanted to create something for all to enjoy and incorporate all areas of Baton Rouge to showcase not only the diversity of our city, but as a destination known for its vibrant arts scene” says, Visit Baton Rouge President & CEO, Paul Arrigo.
Artist Jonathan Brown was the one who painted the mural. He’s known about Baton Rouge for his contribution to the Walls Project, and has worked with the river center on many projects there before.
“Working with Visit Baton Rouge to create this mural, and having it displayed in the River Center is a dream come true!” said Brown. “There is no better way imaginable to incorporate my art into the life of Baton Rouge than this.”
Brown first presented the mural’s designs back in August.
Brown says, “My plan for this mural was to create a fun experience for the people of Baton Rouge while also giving them a sense of the layout of the city. I gained motivation from the memories that will be made with this mural, the possibilities that were being created, and I would love to continue to do that in the future!”
The mural gives
photos taken in front of the artwork the appearance of standing on a balcony
overlooking the city. Visitors and locals alike will be able to enjoy this
great work of art during meetings and conventions held at the River Center as
well as several upcoming events including Bob Seger, Lauren Daigle, the Paw
Patrol shows and Ice Skating on the River.
