An unrestrained driver died after his car crossed the center line on LA Hwy 70 in Sorrento and struck another vehicle shortly before 8:30 p.m. on Sunday.
James Elphage, 38, of Baton Rouge, was traveling eastbound when his Hyundai Sonata hit a Chevrolet Tahoe head-on. Elphage was unrestrained and sustained serious injuries at the time of the crash.
Elphage died after being transported to a local hospital.

Toxicology samples were taken from both drivers for analysis, but impairment is currently unknown.
