BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – The Southern University Human Jukebox, Academy Sports, and Rose Hill Church teamed up to donate $2,000 worth of turkey-frying supplies to families in need.

A total of ten families will receive a number of thanksgiving items which include a fryer, heat-resistant gloves, and seasonings to name a few.

In addition, the organizations chose to highlight a local family for their contribution to the Metro Baton Rouge Area.

The late Fire Chief and Veteran Michael Alleman served his community for decades. At the event, his family accepted a gift on his behalf for his dedication to helping others.

“Anybody will tell you that, whatever they did he was part of it. Nobody was ever behind him. He always made sure everybody was with him,” said Gail Leray Alleman.

To top the celebration, the band put on a performance.

“Just playing your instrument and showing love to people goes a long way. So this is a part of that service in the community,” said Kedric Taylor, Southern University Band Director.

Pastor Danny Donaldson of Rose Hill Church says their congregation decided to participate in the selection process for choosing the families that received these holiday gifts. Donaldson says it’s about teaching the importance of giving back.

“It’s a beautiful thing to not only do business in the community but to connect with the community,” said Donaldson.
