Southern University hosts candidate town hall ahead of elections

Showing up to a candidate forum at Southern University, student Diamond Williams said, being there is important.

“That’s showing that we really care about what’s going on in our environment, dealing with our school and our state and community” said Williams.

Packed inside of a room of the campus’ student union, students asked questions about issues that affect them most.

“Getting clear answers, what are your plans for our community, what do you plan on doing for the state of Louisiana and how can we progress” said a Southern University student.

The most talked about topic Wednesday night was higher education.

“Whoever it is, they need to have a special importance on higher education. Making sure that our next generation of Louisianans will be educated in Louisiana.”

Students say, under the higher ed bridge, funding is essential.

“How are they going to benefit us, like, Southern for example. What are they going to do to make our school keep improving? They’re so worried about LSU side but what’s going on over here” said Williams.

Listening to all of the candidate’s response to their questions. Students said, their message is loud and clear.

“Remember Southern University”
