BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – As the third week of July unfolds, Southern University in Baton Rouge is shining a spotlight on some of its outstanding students.

One such student, Kennedy Browne, is a junior computer science major who earned a summer internship with the U.S. Department of Defense.

This summer, Brown is working at Eglin Air Force Base, which is situated along Northwest Florida’s Emerald Coast between Pensacola and Panama City.

During her prestigious internship at the largest Air Force base in the world, Brown’s responsibilities include working on the first space satellite communication system that will be used by the US Military and NATO.

This summer, Brown is one of several Southern University students to be recognized for excellence.

The university also acknowledged two freshmen, Jailyn Rogers and Kelsey Quinney, for earning a spot with the All-Academic bowlers for the 2021-22 season.

The announcement was made by the National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA), which recognizes student-athletes who have excelled in the classroom throughout the academic year.

A student-athlete must have a cumulative GPA of 3.4 or higher for the academic school year to qualify for this award.
