BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — A search committee to find a new chancellor for Southern University is holding its first meeting on Friday, Nov. 17.
During its October board meeting, the Southern University System Board of Supervisors approved a motion to create a committee to split the position of president and chancellor.
Dennis Shields currently serves as president of the Southern University System and chancellor of the Southern University Baton Rouge campus and was named to that position in February 2022. He will remain president of SUS.
The search committee, appointed by Shields’ and Board Chairman Myron Lawson, is expected to discuss the timeline and search process for the new chancellor.

- Business Community: Matt Valliere
- Classified Employee: Kretrice Chisley
- Community Leader: Dr. Jim Llorens
- Dean: Dr. Dawn Kight
- External Partner: Irving Matthews
- Faculty: Dr. Zhu Ning and Dr. Revathi Hines
- Faculty Senate: Dr. Oswald Dauvergne, President
- Finance: Catherine Miles
- Student Government Association: Brandon Horne, President
- Southern University System Foundation: Alfred Harrell III, CEO
- Staff Senate: Dr. Toni Jackson, President
- Student Leader: Jordan Williams, Miss Southern University
