BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — The Southern University System pushed for another eventful year flourishing in school excellence, reaching its goal of $10 million.
The ‘SU Give Day’ is about growing and developing the Southern University System throughout Louisiana. The fundraiser will be used to benefit five campuses.
A student panel discussion helped share the value of donating to five different campuses.
“We are asking you to invest in our future and your future leaders,” said Ciara Perique, student at Southern University in New Orleans.
“A lot of kids don’t know what they want to do, and they don’t know how many options are available,” said Tanner Pruitt, student at the Southern Lab School.
The donations can also help eliminate financial stress.

“Giving us advice on college and how to apply to it. And I just feel like for me it will help me a lot. But it is very hard because my mother didn’t graduate from college,” said Southern Lab School student, Cydney Williams.
Perique said it’s more than just meeting the goal. It’s all about continuing Southern University’s legacy.
“It’s not just about the money. It’s the experience, making us feel heard as far as maintaining our buildings, maintaining our housing, maintaining our scholarships,” said Perique.
The University mentioned the top five alumni to donate are eligible for two tickets each to see Beyonce in New Orleans in September.
A Southern University spokesperson told me the funds raised will also go towards the Southern University Laboratory School.
