Spelling Bee champ receives another scholarship offer

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – Since winning the National Spelling Bee, Zaila Avant-garde is continuing to collect plaudits.

For starters, LSU and LCTCS are offering the Spelling Bee Champion a scholarship.

Southern University is also offering Zaila Avant-garde a scholarship.

President Belton made the announcement on Saturday.

According to Southern, the university “will work to schedule a personalized “Zaila Day” on campus, where Zaila can meet with student leaders, faculty, alumni and more!”

Zaila Avant-garde is the first African American winner of the National Spelling Bee.
