Update: Fire causes at least a million dollars in damage to building

UPDATE: The St. George Fire Department said a fire on Sunday caused a million dollars or more worth of damage to a business on Airline Highway.

That fire started around 11:30 a.m. Sunday morning at the building at 11534 Airline Highway. The property is registered to AMR Automotive and Hidden Treasures LLC.

Eldon R. Ledoux, public information officer for the St. George Fire Department, said on Monday “our investigators will be working with insurance cause and origin engineers and investigators. No conclusions will be reached until the investigation is closed, and information as to the cause and origin will be made public at that time.”

There is no suspicion of foul play.

The St. George Fire Department responded to a blaze near Siegen Lane and Airline Hwy around 11:30 a.m. on June 30, after someone called 911 about a fire.

Upon arrival to 11534 Airline Hwy, dense black smoke could be seen coming from the entire perimeter of the roof of a large steel commercial construction building, according to a spokesperson with St. George Fire.

The property is registered as AMR Automotive and Hidden Treasures LLC (a home decor business), according to the the East Baton Rouge parish property division.

The fire at 11534 Airline Hwy was declared under control by officials at 12:02 p.m. CST.

The fire was upgraded to a two alarm fire before it was declared under control at 12:02 p.m. by St. George Fire.

No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire has not been determined. The investigation is ongoing.
