We’re a little more than a month away from the October 12th election that has the St.George incorporation on the ballot, and supporters are gearing up to spread the word.
A campaign rally will be held as election day is just a few weeks away.
Spokesperson Andrew Murrell says St.George efforts have been in the works for about a decade.
One of the main goals is to save schools struggling in east baton rouge parish.
If the vote passes it would be the largest incorporation effort in the state and third largest in the country.
Murrell says he sees St.George being a positive for the parish.
“I think it’s the most important election in East Baton Rouge Parish history. I think this incorporation is the last chance to stop the flight of migration outward at which we’re seeing. I think it’s the last chance to save the parish from a financial standpoint and save the businesses and the middle class communities in East Baton Rouge Parish,” he says.
Nearly 30,000 residents throughout the parish have changed voting locations so be sure to check where you’ll vote. Murrell says that’ll likely not impact the St.George vote.
The campaign rally is set to begin at 6 p.m. at Woodlawn Baptist Church.
