Multiple agencies were seen helping put a fire out at the Angola Prison on February 28.
An employee at the prison noticed the fire and called it in at approximately 5:30 p.m.
After the fire was put out, an investigation ensued and the State Fire Marshal has come out with their conclusions.
SFM says, “after an assessment of the scene, SFM investigators determined the likely origin of the fire was in the middle of the structure where plumbing work was usually conducted.”
Investigators could not pinpoint an exact cause of the fire.
According to the State Fire Marshal, investigators “did find evidence of electrical malfunction inside of the main electrical panel for the building.”
These fire response teams participated in extinguishing the fire:
- Angola fire response team
- West Feliciana Fire Protection
- St. Francisville Fire Department
State Fire Marshal Chief H. “Butch” Browning not only wants to commend Angola’s fire team for their efforts to fight this very large fire, but also for the mutual aid efforts of the volunteer fire departments in the areas surrounding the prison property.
