State trooper injured after suspected impaired driver crashes through construction zone

MARRERO, La. —
A state trooper was injured Thursday morning in Jefferson Parish after a suspected impaired driver crashed into a construction zone.

Around 2 a.m. State Police began investigating on state Route 45 at Warwick Drive in Jefferson Parish.Advertisement

The crash resulted in minor injuries to the trooper and the arrest of 21-year-old Ashley D. Munoz-Delarosa of Marrero.

According to the report, the trooper’s Crown Victoria was stopped in the right lane of a construction zone that was fully marked with emergency lights.

At the same time, Munoz-Delarosa was traveling southbound on Route 45 in a 2019 Toyota Camry.

State police said she disregarded construction zone cones and flares across the roadway and struck the passenger side of the LSP Crown Victoria.

Both the trooper and Munoz-Delarosa were transported a local hospital with minor injuries.

Munoz-Delarosa was unrestrained, and impairment on her part is suspected.

Troopers placed her under arrest on suspicion of driving while intoxicated first offense, , careless operation, disregarding barricade signs and signals, and no seat belt.

She was booked into the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center.

This crash remains under investigation.
