PHOENIX – IPA, or India Pale Ale, is a hoppy beer style known to be incredibly bitter. So what does this have to do with you being a psychopath if you like the stuff?

The University of Innsbruck in Austria conducted a study relating people’s tastebuds with their personality traits. Specifically, antisocial personality traits.

Researchers interviewed one-thousand participants and recorded their opinions on a variety of foods based on a six-point scale as well as a personality questionnaire. The results showed that those who enjoyed bitter foods were also more likely to have sadistic tendencies.

They tested other food categories for correlation with this certain personality as well. This included sweet, sour and salty. However, bitter had the most positive relationship with darker personalities.

With IPA being a bitter choice among the many types of beers, this certain drink can be grouped into the bitter category this study is referencing.

Other foods listed as bitter in the experiment included black coffee and radishes.
