BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – The Salvation Army teamed up with Walmart on Saturday to help local children.

The first day of school is fast approaching and there are children who need school supplies.

At 2 p.m. on Saturday, volunteers with The Salvation Army took part in the “Stuff the Bus” campaign at two local Walmart locations.

The Walmart Supercenters located at 3132 College Dr. and 10550 Burbank Dr. hosted the volunteers.

Shoppers at these locations could go inside and purchase school supplies before walking outside and and dropping the items off at The Salvation Army collection bins.

“Thousands of children in our community are headed back to school, and many will need assistance to start the school year off right. By donating school supplies for a child in need, you’re ensuring they will have the tools they need to have a successful first day and year at school.,” says Major Donald Tekautz, Corps Officer, Greater Baton Rouge.
