The East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office confirmed that a suspect was arrested in relation to the September 5 shooting death of 23-year-old Reginald Cossett Jr.
Police arrested Corey Jashawn Sanders, 19, of 7350 Whitney Ave. in Baton Rouge, and charged him with accessory to first degree murder, illegal use of a weapon, armed robbery and obstruction of justice.
Cossett said he was sleeping in a vehicle in the Gardere area and was awakened by three men shooting at him.
After shooting Cossett, the victims dumped his body in the Highland Road Park, according to an affidavit.
EBRSO confirmed Cossett was shot multiple times and later died at a local hospital.
The affidavit suggests that the perpetrators stole money and a phone from Cossett, and the phone was tracked to determine their whereabouts.
Cossett was able to contact authorities via smart watch after his phone was stolen.
The vehicle tied to the crime was intentionally set on fire, destroying potential evidence of crimes, according to the affidavit.
