Suspect arrested in connection with vacant house fire in Baker, Charged with Negligent Arson

BAKER, La. (BRPROUD) – The Baton Rouge Fire Department Arson Division was called to the scene of an early morning fire on Kleinpeter Rd.

A little after 3:30 a.m., BRFD investigators arrived at 6139 Kleinpeter Rd.

According to the Baton Rouge Fire Department, “Throughout the investigation it was determined that the defendant had committed LRS 14:52.2- Negligent Arson by intentionally and knowingly entering a structure without the owner’s permission and also setting fire to the structure.”

31-year-old Keith Wilson was arrested and charged with Negligent Arson.

The arrest was made after investigators collected these details:

  • The defendant was observed exiting the burning structure and running away from the scene
  • The suspect stated that he was smoking a cigarette on the exterior of the house and dropped the burning paper on the ground next to the vacant structure
  • The defendant only remembers later seeing a cloud and flashing lights before running away
  • The suspect further stated that he did not have permission to be in the house and did not know who the owner was

The vacant home sustained $10,000 in damages.

Wilson remains in the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.
