BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – 26-year-old Kevontae Reed, a.k.a, “Weedy,” is facing one count of human trafficking after a recent arrest.

Reed was arrested on Friday, November 5 after a months-long investigation by multiple organizations.

The affidavit states that Reed participated in human trafficking in early August.

On the 10th of that month, the LSP Fugitive Apprehension Task Force executed an arrest warrant at The Shades Motel located on Airline Hwy.

On that date, two juvenile girls were located at the motel and “FATF Agents stated there were indications of the juveniles being trafficked for sexual purposes.”

The juveniles were ages 13 and 14.

The 14-year-old was subsequently arrested and booked into the juvenile detention center.

When the 14-year-old was taken into custody, a cell phone was taken from the juvenile.

According the affidavit, the cell phone was used by the 14-year-old to set up ‘plays.’

‘Plays’ is another way of saying prostitution.

The 13-year-old mentioned to authorities that “‘Weedy’ told both juveniles they would stay at this motel and earn their right to stay.”

The affidavit states that the same juvenile said to “earn their right to stay meant having sex with random men for money.”

Further investigation led authorities to conclude that ‘Weedy’ was Kevontae Reed.

According to the affidavit, “Reed paid for and signed the hotel receipt for the room the juveniles were staying and being forced to engage in sexual intercourse.”

The 13-year-old positively identified ‘Weedy’ in a lineup of photos and stated that the suspect paid for the motel room and forced the two juveniles to have sex for money.

These organizations assisted in the arrest of Kevontae Reed:

  • Louisiana State Police SVU
  • Baton Rouge Field Office
  • East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office
  • LSP Fugitive Apprehension Task Force

Reed was arrested based on forensic interviews and statements collected during the investigation.
