BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Ever wanted to do a TED talk? Or attend one? Here’s your chance.
The first TEDxBatonRouge is set for Sept. 14 at Manship Theatre. The theme — “Think Again” — asks the community to “challenge assumptions, consider possibilities, and cultivate curiosity,” according to a news release.
Melissa Thompson and Morgan Almeida are coordinating the presentation. They’ll screen and coach candidates to speak, ultimately choosing five or six people to showcase ideas that can help Baton Rouge progress.
“We want attendees to leave TEDxBatonRouge with a new idea, a challenge to their preconceived notions, and maybe even a new friend along the way,” said Almeida. “The event should be a celebration of homegrown ideas and an incubator for community collaboration and discussion, so we are seeking speakers, volunteers and partners that believe in those same ideals.”
TED talks primarily focus on technology, entertainment and design. However, they can cover a range of topics.
Organizers are looking for volunteers who specialize in design, event planning and communications in addition to those who can help staff the event.
“We believe that when we come together to share our ideas, we ignite a spark that can transform our community,” Thompson said. “TEDxBatonRouge is a platform for this kind of transformative exchange, and we can’t wait to see the amazing ideas that will be shared and the positive impact they will have on our community.”
