BATON ROUGE, La. (NBC Local 33)(Fox 44) – One of the three suspects accused of shooting and killing a 17-year-old boy on Ottawa Dr. earlier this week will be tried as an adult.
East Baton Rouge Parish District Attorney Hillar Moore said a judge found probable cause Thursday to charge 16-year-old Jeffrey Tate with second-degree murder.
Tate is one of three suspects accused of shooting 17-year-old Jevon Brown in the stomach Monday afternoon on Ottawa Drive as Brown walked home.
Tate’s brother, 18-year-old Davaughn Tate, and another 16-year-old boy are the other two suspects.
The Tate brothers were placed behind bars Wednesday after turning themselves in to authorities.
Jeffrey was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison while Davaughn was sent to the Juvenile Detention Center.
The 16-year-old suspect is also in the Juvenile Detention Center. He was booked Monday shortly after being questioned following treatment at an area hospital for a gunshot wound to the arm.
Jeffrey Tate was arrested for principle to second-degree murder, principle to illegal use of a weapon, and simple battery.
