Testing site open to public, no physician’s note needed

BATON ROUGE, La. (LOCAL 33)(FOX 44) – No doctor’s note needed, no long lines, and no wait. It’s a dream come true for anyone looking to know for sure.

“We provide testing to healthcare workers, commercial contractors, industrial contractors adn the general public,” Sarah Taylor, owner of Gulf Coast Occupational Medicine says.

Gulf Coast Occupational Medicine is shuffling people in and out quickly. That’s because you don’t need much to sign up for a test. You just need $50 dollars and a driver’s license. Anyone who comes through here can get their results within 15 minutes.

The secret to the speed is in the type of testing they do here. Instead of taking a sample from your nose, they use blood from your finger. The small prick is enough to determine if your body is forming antibodies against the virus.

“You leave with written result in your hand and you’re offered to speak with a healthcare provider so that you can have your results interpreted.”

Taylor says the test is 97 percent effective. If you get a blood test there’s a chance you could get a false negative. It takes a while for symptoms to show up. Blood tests only show if you’ve starting fighting off the virus.
