The Walls Project spreads positivity

Buildings across Baton Rouge are transforming with every mural that The Walls Project creates. The Walls Project is a nonprofit that began in November of 2012.

It was a collaborative effort between the business and social communities in Baton Rouge. What began as a joint effort progressed into a citywide public art campaign. The project hopes to accomplish, “not only city beautification but also economic development in order to serve a greater social good,” according to their website.

The project continues to flourish in its 6th year by federal, business and individual donations that make their unique artwork possible.

The Walls Project Director, Casey Phillips, hopes the art will inspire unity and peace.

“It’s about keeping an open dialogue…If you don’t give people the ability to express themselves then they will find other ways of expressing themselves,” Phillips said.

The nonprofit’s mission is to stimulate the creative arts economy by delivering public art works that inspire urban and rural beautification, dialogue, and unity.

Volunteers of all ages and backgrounds are welcome to come paint, create art and join the movement with the talented muralists.
