Three people, including a 3-year-old boy, are dead following an early morning two-alarm fire at a home in New Orleans East.

According to fire officials, the fire started just before 2:00 a.m. at a home on Wave drive in New Orleans.  Because of the number of residents trapped inside the burning home, a second alarm was called just after 2:00 a.m.

An elderly man and a 3-year-old boy were rescued from the home and taken to the hospital.  The 3-year-old died at the hospital.

Two additional residents, a 70-year-old man and a 69-year-old woman died at the scene.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
