BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — If you haven’t already booked or planned for your summer trip, good luck. Experts say not only are more people traveling this year but they will be spending more money.

There is a good chance that if you didn’t travel for Memorial Day weekend, you are traveling sometime this summer. Vice President of Travel and Hospitality for TransUnion, Cecilia Seiden, says more than 46 percent of people are expected to travel more than last year. Seiden says driving will be the biggest mode of transportation as people are wanting to get outside but still save some money on their vacation.

While you can expect to pay more for gas, hotels, and even flights, there are still ways to have a good time without breaking the bank. “Planning that budget ahead of time is a really great way to do it. Another thing is looking at less expensive activities. And while it’s not directly cost, making sure that you’re enrolled in many travel rewards programs relevant to your trip are also really helpful. So hotel rewards can help you get things like free Wi-Fi, free bottled water, or maybe even a free night with longer stays. And then over the long term, obviously, those points can help you pay for a future vacation,” she continued. z

Seiden goes on to say, if you haven’t already booked your trip, try booking it after the Labor Day weekend in order to help with last-minute price increases. More people are prioritizing traveling this year so make reservations and be prepared for heavy traffic.
