BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – An NFL star is investing in a paddle sport that’s captured the interest of quite a few people in Louisiana’s capital region.

Pickleball is a sport that’s typically compared to tennis as it involves use of a paddle, a net, a ball, and the aim of using the paddle to hit the ball over the net.

This October, the unique game is capturing the interest of the nation due to an announcement from the founder of Major League Pickleball.

MLB says Tom Brady of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Former World No.1 tennis player, Kim Clijsters have both partnered with an ownership group that purchased an expansion team for the 2023 MLP season.

MLP Founder Steve Kuhn issued a statement, saying, “Tom Brady, Kim Clijsters, and Knighthead Capital Management are champions in their fields and will now be champions for Major League Pickleball.”

The 45-year-old quarterback isn’t the only one cultivating an interest in the sport.

A recent CNN article notes that “Pickleball’s popularity has skyrocketed in North America, partly driven by the Covid-19 pandemic as it offers a safe, socially distanced form of exercise.”
