LIVONIA, La. (BRPROUD) – The mayor and town council in the Town of Livonia along with a Louisiana-based telecommunications company are warning customers about a scam.

According to Star Communications, “a customer was contacted by a scammer that said Star Communications had merged with Cox and needed to download files on his computer.”

If you hear those words, cease communicating with the scammer.

For future reference, Direct Communications – Louisiana is providing some helpful guidance to follow below:

  • If you ever receive a phone call from us and it isn’t someone you know, feel free to call back our office to verify.
  • We will never ask you to download programs to your computer. That is a common practice that scammers use to gain access to our personal information.
  • If you ever have questions about possible scams, please reach out to Star Telephone Co.
