BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – A little before 11 p.m., on Tuesday, November 29, a trooper saw someone commit a traffic violation on Burbank Dr.
The affidavit states that Harold Oatis, 47, of, Baton Rouge ran a red light while driving a 2005 Lexus.
A traffic stop was initiated and the trooper began to interact with Oatis.
The trooper “observed him to have slurred speech, swaying upper body movements, and a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from his breath,” according to the affidavit.
Oatis admitted to having a few beers when asked by the trooper.
The 47-year-old did not do well on subsequent Standardized Field Sobriety Tests.
The Baton Rouge man was arrested and a search of the vehicle was conducted by the trooper.
These items were seized during the search:
- Silver Bersa Thunder 380 firearm
- Clear plastic baggie containing around 1 gram of suspected marijuana
- Open Bud Light container
- Measuring cup with white powdery residue at the bottom of the glass along with an open box of baking soda
- Clear plastic bag containing suspected cocaine
Oatis was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on Wednesday, November 30.
The 47-year-old remains behind bars on the charges listed below:
- Possession of Firearm by a Person Convicted of Domestic Abuse Battery
- Operating while intoxicated; first offense
- Red Light/Disobey
- Possession Alcohol in Vehicle
- Tail Lamp/License Plate
- Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
- Possession of Marijuana
- Possession of Schedule II
- Expired Registration
Bond has been set at $11,250 for Harold Oatis.
