BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – After a Tuesday (August 30) evening storm unleashed a downpour in the Baton Rouge area around 5:30 p.m., the rain triggered a number of traffic incidents that capital area drivers may want to be aware of.

Location of Crash: I-12 East near the Millerville Exit

Time of Crash: 8 p.m.

Additional Notes: The right lane is blocked on I-12 East past Millerville Road due to a disabled 18-wheeler. Congestion has reached one mile in length.


Location of Crash: Greenwell Springs Road at Monterrey Drive

Time of Crash: 7:33 p.m.

Additional Notes: The crash is in the roadway and Baton Rouge Police are on the scene.


Location of Incident: Convention Street near North 26th Street and North Eugene Street

Time of Incident: 6:27 p.m.

Other Notes: Officials say a traffic incident of some sort is causing road blockage. Area drivers should expect delays. Baton Rouge Police are on scene.


Location of Crash: Airline Highway near Prescott Road and Evangeline Street

Time of Crash: 6:14 p.m.

Other Notes: This crash is in the roadway and Baton Rouge Police are at the scene.


Location of Crash: LSU Campus on Dalrymple Drive near Fraternity Lane & East Campus Drive

Time of Crash: 6:07 p.m.

Other Notes: This incident is a hit and run that LSU Police are responding to.


Location of Incident: Ascension Parish- Hwy. 74 between Bluff Road and the Parish Line

Time of Incident: 5:55 p.m.

Additional Notes: As of 8 p.m., one lane has opened along Hwy. 74 between Bluff and the parish line. Earlier in the evening, all lanes were closed when a large tree branch fell on a vehicle. Drivers should expect delays if traveling in this direction.


Location of Crash: I-12 East at Essen Lane

Time of Crash: 5:55 p.m.

Update: As of 6:20 p.m., all lanes are open after a crash involving an 18-wheeler. But area congestion is still a problem, and drivers should expect delays.


Location of Crash: North Foster Drive at North Street and Hermitage Drive

Time of Crash: 5:53 p.m.

Other Notes: At least one person was injured in this crash and Baton Rouge Police are responding to the incident.


Location of Crash: Perkins Road at Siegen Lane

Time of Crash: 5:51 p.m.

Other Notes: Though we have few details related to this crash, we know deputies with the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office are at the scene.


Location of Crash: Highland Road near Duplantier Boulevard near West Lee Drive

Time of Crash: 5:48 p.m.

Other Notes: Crash is in roadway and may cause delays. Baton Rouge Police are on site.


Location of Crash: LSU Campus – Highland Road at South Campus Drive

Time of Crash: 5:40 p.m.

Other Notes: This is a hit and run incident that LSU Police are responding to.
