BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – Suspects who led authorities on a Monday (September 19) afternoon police pursuit in north Baton Rouge crashed their vehicle in an incident that resulted in one person’s death and left others wounded, police say.

The incident occurred shortly before 2:30 p.m. near North Acadian Thruway and Winbourne Avenue.

Later in the day, the Baton Rouge Police Department (BRPD) provided more information on the circumstances that led up to the crash.

According to BRPD, officers with the Street Crime Unit were patrolling the area when they noticed three people in a silver vehicle (pictured below) who were wearing what appeared to be full-faced coverings and gloves.

Upon further observation, the silver car began committing traffic violations, so police say they tried to pull it over.

But the suspects didn’t comply and crashed into a second and third vehicle at the intersection of Acadian and Winbourne.

The impact of the crash resulted in the death of the passenger in the silver car. It also injured multiple victims in the second and third vehicles. Police say the wounded were taken to an area hospital and are expected to survive at this time.

The suspect in the backseat of the silver car was apprehended by authorities.

Upon further investigation of the crash site, detectives discovered guns and ammunition, items which they believe came from the suspected vehicle.

At this time, the identity of the deceased has not been released and police say their investigation into the fatal incident remains ongoing.
