FRANKLINTON , La. (AP) — A 51-year-old disabled woman died in a trailer home fire, the Louisiana State Fire Marshal’s Office said Monday.

The coroner’s office identified her as Christy Ball, 51, who lived in the trailer home.

An electrical malfunction may have started the fire Sunday in Franklinton, but the investigation is continuing and has not confirmed a cause, a news release said.

Franklinton firefighters answered an alarm about 5:15 a.m. on Sunday, and were told a woman inside had been unable to escape because of a disability, the statement said.

She was dead when firefighters got to her.

Deputies found that the fire started in her bedroom, and were unable to rule out the possibility that improper or old wiring caused an electrical malfunction.

They also found that the mobile home did not have working smoke alarms, which might have alerted Ball to danger in time to escape, the news release said.
