Here is the up-top view of the destruction left behind after roughly 28 train cars that derailed in a crash Wednesday morning.
This is just off “X” Avenue in Tama County, to the west of Belle Plaine, near the Tama-Benton County line. You can see piles of sugar and soda coming from those train cars.
The train derailment happened just after 3:30 a.m. Officials say there was no hazardous material on board. The train was carrying sugar and soda. Some cars were on their sides, some were turned over, some were crashed into each other. Nobody was hurt.
X Avenue is closed for the day as Union Pacific brings in crews to clean up.
