TRAVEL ADVISORY: Delays persist after commercial vehicle fire on I-10 East

LOUISIANA, (BRPROUD) – Traffic is still backed up on I-10 East after an early morning vehicle fire.

DOTD reported around 8:00 a.m. that a “vehicle was on fire on I-10 Eastbound near the Lafayette St. Martin Parish Line (106) .”

The right lane was blocked after that and remains closed at this time.

Around 11 a.m., the Lafayette Police Department posted this on Facebook:

I-10 eastbound at mile marker 106 is down to one lane due to the clean-up of a commercial vehicle fire on the outside shoulder. The back-up on I-10 is currently 6 miles.
Please avoid the area and seek alternative routes using www.511la.org or Louisiana 511 app on smartphones.
Closure is expected to extent into the late afternoon hours of the day.

Multiple fire departments are assisting the Lafayette Fire Department at the scene with water tankers.

Those fire departments are:

  • Broussard
  • Carencro
  • Duson
  • Scott

The Lafayette Fire Department says this is not a hazmat situation.
