Two houses sustain damage in late night fire on Greenwell Springs Rd.

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – The Baton Rouge Fire Department was called to a fire on Greenwell Springs Rd. around 10:45 p.m. on Monday, October 4.

According to the Baton Rouge Fire Department, “Fire investigators were at the gas station on the corner of Choctaw Dr. and Greenwell Springs Rd. when they noticed smoke coming from the houses a couple of blocks away.”

Firefighters arrived at a residence in the 6500 block of Greenwell Springs Rd. and immediately saw someone knocking on a door to a home.

In this instance, one house was vacant while the other had one person inside at the time of the fire.

“One person came out of the house at 6526 Greenwell Springs Rd. unharmed,” according to the Baton Rouge Fire Department.

Firefighters arrived in less than five minutes and fires were located on the back porches of two houses.

The fires were put out in around 25 minutes with the help of seven total units, four pumpers and one ladder.

The homes sustained $70,000 in damages.

BRFD described damage to each home this way:

  • The fire was contained to the porch on the vacant home at 6542 Greenwell Springs Rd.
  • The fire damaged the back porch and room to the rear of the other house

Fire investigators concluded that arson was the cause of the fire.

EMS, BRPD, Red Cross and Entergy assisted the Baton Rouge Fire Department at the scene.
